Welcome to FANYU — the first café in Taiwan where roast duck is reimagined for the daytime.
You may not realize it, but there’s a duck that’s been traveling through time for over 160 years. Born in 1864 in Beijing, it once graced the tables of emperors and later became a beloved street food, shared by generations of families. It has survived revolutions, migrations, and changing times — and somehow, it’s always returned to the table. For many of us, it came to mean more than a meal. It meant family. Gathering. A sense of home.
I grew up with that flavor.
And later, when I moved to the U.S., I found myself drifting into coffee shops — not just for the coffee, but for the vibe. The small ritual of taking a breath and feeling like yourself again. That’s when I began to wonder: why is roast duck always saved for banquets or dinner parties? What if it could also be personal — like coffee? What if it could sit quietly beside you in the daytime, in a sunlit space, with no need for an occasion?
That thought became the starting point for Fanyu. It wasn’t born out of a business plan, but out of a question I carried with me for years:
“How do you teach a 161-year-old duck to speak the language of 2025?”
So we built something different. Here in Taiwan, we kept what matters — the fire, the craft passed down through generations — and gave it a new rhythm. At Fanyu, roast duck belongs to your lunch hour, your brunch table, your everyday. It pairs unexpectedly well with coffee. The rich smokiness of duck meets the depth of roasted beans — not in conflict, but in quiet harmony. And dinner? We still believe that belongs at home. That’s why we send our roast duck home with you, wrapped warm and ready — so the taste of family can return to where it’s always belonged.
FANYU is more than a restaurant. It’s a way of honoring tradition while inviting it into a new conversation. It’s how something ancient sits gracefully at a modern table.
It’s how a centuries-old duck tells you a story you’ve never heard before.
This is Fanyu — where Quanjude’s heritage is reborn in Taiwan!
